It started with Cold, Dark, and Silent. There we learned about Hurrt county, and a woman missing for over 2 years. You meet retired detective “Chig” Ashe, our protagonist and his friends. CDS has been called a slow burn that heats up fast. I like that. You should know while completely fiction, it is loosely based on two separate cases I worked as a cop many years ago.
Next was The Blockade Runners. Through those pages we meet a group of men, many of whom are leaders in the small lakeside community. (Much like people in any town. Like people you know where you live.) These men are members of a century old private society dedicated to preserving the art of moonshining. At least symbolically. But in reality they become greedy and then… well, it all starts with a body in the lake. This is a fast, action-filled thriller I dare you to put down!
Coming next, after the very dramatic cliffhanger at the end of TBR, is The Elite Watch. Ashe has made a huge promise to the woman he still loves, and he is back in the city (“Metro” – also fiction) hunting down the assassin he exchanged gunfire with, but did not kill. he knows in his bones that the assassin will find time to close the book on him, so Ashe goes on the offensive.
TEW is about obsession, a promise, and yes, revenge. It’s gritty, inner city, and filled with false leads, betrayal, and “a promise he cannot forget, and an assassin who will not quit.”
These books are on several must read book club lists, and have garnered high reviews from readers and my fellow authors. Try them and let me know what you think.
Also- is Ashe’s house really haunted? Or is it just the emotional stress he’s under?
